Race Report – LSC Good Friday Easter Classic

What a fantastic day we had not only did no one get hurt, the League of Swindon Cycles riders completed their first Cat4 crit race and breaking through the anxious feelings along the way!

LSC riders; Stephen M, Aaron, Jake, Simon & Steve B all raced in the annual & fairly infamous Castle Coombe Good Friday Classic – taking on one of the more hazardous events in the calendar. Cat4 crit racing is commonly known for its erratic pace, control and lack of experience – it’s quite common for race organisers to combine the 4’s and 3’s into one field, but not for the Classic. This shorter than normal timed race, 30mins, takes no prisoners and unless you have your whit’s about you could see a manner of different outcomes – but crashing isn’t the most painful, with hundreds of spectators cheering on the racers alongside the track and the other categories warming up and watching on being dropped or lapped was certainly one of the most fearful outcomes the LSC riders were prepared to take on.

Speaking with the riders after the event, all of which hung in and finished within a few seconds of the winner – basically no one was dropped, the spectators saw 33:02 minutes of Cat4 racing that covered 14.79miles (6 laps) rounded off at a 26.9mph average pace for the duration.

“26.9mph Avr is the fastest I’ve ever ridden for a sustained time – absolutely loved it!”

Overall it was a good event for the team; with Aaron & Jake taking turns on the front pulling the field and a safe ride has filled the team with confidence as we head into the final 3 weeks before the Summer Series starts.

Check out the Race Report Vlog by Stephen due to be posted on the SCTV youtube channel at 6pm on the 11.04.23.
