Castle Combe Easter Classic – Race Report is here!
The Castle Combe Easter Classic looked at as one of the pivotal starting races of the BC Calendar, especially when the weather is good – gives a real vibe of Summer Series Crit racing! This year the classic was a full month early but the weather was actually dry, fairly windy proved the main battle for the fields through out the day.
We had five riders racing in the E123 & two racing in the Cat 3 race slightly earlier.
E123
As always for the Easter Classic, a packed field of over 100 riders all taking to the start line. We had 5 riders Olly, Tom, Myles, Simon and Joe pulling on the race numbers in this race.
The plan was to..
On the first lap a few of the our lads ended up being pushed onto the Grass after the cross winds pushed the peloton across the track after the chicane, resulting in multiple matches being burnt by the guys just to get back on, as the peloton pushed on at the high pace resulting in Myles, Joe and Simon all being effected. Coming round one of the corners on the third lap to see a crash meant even more backing up to which Myles and Simon used the track to maintain almost a training session, Joe rode with a few other riders in a changing but after being lapped – jumped off the race.
Tom and Olly battled on, Tom sitting within the main pack and Olly managing to get in the break away of around 16 riders, stayed within in this for the rest of the race until missed another break resulting in rolling in ahead of the bunch, we think within the top 20 and Tom within the bunch itself.

Cat 3
Like the rest of the starting fields the C3 race had a packed starting grid, where we had two riders line up, Joe and Simon had the C3 Numbers pinned and ready to go!
Both riders mentioned the race was tougher than originally expected and the winds really didn’t help, but working together the two managed to get right in the mix and jump onto some good moves. However both riders were caught lower down the field than wanted to be come the final lap and Simon took the decision to roll in, be safe within the pack where as Joe worked little more and thinks crossed the line for a Top 20 finish.
